The idea of the specialist section on matriarchy research has developed from the need to provide literature on matriarchy for researchers and interested persons. At the same time, with the planning of a new library for the public, the opportunity of complementing the Women’s Library Wyborada with a new focus has been presented. Since 2008, there is an annual grant for the resources provided by the cantonal library Vadiana. The cantonal library provides the services for all aspects of the use of the new library.
The section on matriarchy research is based largely on the research works of Heide Göttner-Abendroth. Her literature about matriarchy, collected over centuries, builds the foundation of the MatriArchiv. Furthermore, the author donated her complete works to the library, which is particularly characterized by the signature HGA. Over the years, many publications from numerous countries have been added, which illuminate the topic of matriarchy from a variety of perspectives and thus enable a differentiated view.
